Lead-acid batteries are the most widely used and cost-effective option for UPS systems. They offer reliable performance and high tolerance to varying power conditions. Within lead-acid, there are two main categories:
- Valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA):Â These are sealed batteries that require minimal maintenance, making them ideal for most modern UPS applications. They typically have a life span of five to 10 years.
- Open-ventilated lead-acid (VLA) batteries:Â Also known as “flooded” batteries, these offer a longer life span (up to 20 years) but require a dedicated, well-ventilated room due to their physical and electrolytical characteristics.
