Nationwide Power™ is the leading provider in the critical power supply industry. Our core business is the sales and service of uninterruptible power supplies and UPS batteries, along with supporting other critical power components such as emergency generators, switch gear, and HVAC. We publish critical power related case studies, highlighting best practices and quality standards.

In this case study, we highlight a contracted customer with a 20-year old Powerware Plus UPS that experienced an inverter shutdown issue. The customer called into our Tech Support Center for immediate phone support with a Critical Power Professional™, which is an exclusive, no-cost benefit for our contracted customers.

Product Powerware Plus 24kVA
Application Spirits Distributor
Synopsis Customer called Nationwide Power for their 20-year old Powerware Plus UPS unit after experiencing a power outage. Their generator is currently under repair, and so the load did not switch to the generator during the outage. After the outage, the UPS unit went down and was in alarm. Alarm shown: Inverter Shut Down.
Preliminary Actions

Through established troubleshooting protocol, the Critical Power Professional™ (CPP™) was able to assist the customer in bringing the Powerware Plus UPS unit back online within just 10 minutes.

Nationwide Power CPP’s are equipped with troubleshooting protocol for all major makes and models of UPS systems, including those that are deemed obsolete by the OEM.

Resolution Once the batteries had an opportunity to recharge, the UPS system was fully operational with the load attached and protected.
Root Cause After the power outage, and due to the generator being inoperable, the UPS unit depleted its batteries to end voltage. Because this Powerware Plus UPS unit has been properly serviced over the past 20 years, the system continues to operate as designed.

"Fantastic job by Darren. This is why everyone should have a maintenance contract in place. Had I not had a contract, then I would not have known I had batteries failing and would have been up a creek if something had happened. Darren explained in detail what needed to be done, and I am thankful you have such a conscientious worker. Hats off once again for his dedication to his job and working with us to ensure we don’t have any issues with our UPS. Thanks Darren."
